Besides, most of us longtime readers and fans know about Thor and just how powerful he is or can be in a certain story. Same with Hulk and Superman and pretty much every other major powerhouse. Many of their writers are glorified Indy writers who aren't well-versed in superhero stories and characters, even if they have undeniable talent as creators. I don't think Marvel hate one of their most popular character who gets them so much money that they can't even comperhend it.
Yes,there are times when they make Thor a jobber but most of the times as right now they even make him do things that he hasn't done before and that is because they want to please his fans. I understand the superman catching the hammer being BS but I could be that he was worthy and I suggest when reading only believing what ur favorite writers wrote ur heroes like.
But it sounds like u just don't like Thor losing. As you said Stan wanted to have anyone can beat anyone on occasion. I have become a huge fan of thor and I like how hes the warrior, not the superman of the Avengers. I like in the movies like when he has superhuman durability.
And don't you like when thor is more of the warrior and not the oneshot lighting bolt anyone like you mentioned in the OP. That's how fights go ya know its cooler to watch. Hulk may be strongest there is but Thor will always be the mightiest avenger no matter what, but him one shotting avengers sounds like Spite matches and would ruin the character for me. Superman fans like myself are reading Lobdells run Stop whining and enjoy.
Why are you still reading Lobdell's run mate? Most of the time they are written to be on par with each other That and Lobdell is good for some fan-wank so who knows maybe Superman will do something cool like benching the earth again pretty soon Hulks strength usually beats Thors battle prowess, which in turn can overcome Silver Surfers energy manipulation, which in turn can usually defeat the hulk turning him back into banner, etc And if you look at these characters match-ups, Thor tends to beat SS who usually defeats Hulk who usually wins over Thor.
So you have just made a case against your point. If Marvel hated Thor would they let him beat the most powerful being the universe more or less. I highly doubt Doomsday could do anything to Mjolnir. Especially that version of Doomsday. Mjolnir has been destroyed by powers and beings above Superman. If you really want to know, Captain Marvel actually hurt his hand when he had to deliver a knock-out punch to Superman's head.
Mjolnir didn't hit Superman's head and the hammer doesnt carry a Juggernaught 'cannot be stopped' enchantment. I didn't say that it was indestructible. When Mjolnir hit Bor's skull it not only broke because how durable Bor was,but because how much power Odin Force unleashed at once. To say Superman is more durable than Mjolnir is kind of suprising seeing as some of the stuff Mjolnir hits would break Superman's hand in attempt.
Captain Marvel hurting his hand on Superman is nothing impressive compared to what Mjolnir has done. Let's see Superman after getting sliced by Wolverine's adamantium claws, cause Mjolnir suffered nothing and Superman has been sliced with objects less sharper than that. To be honest people need to remember that Mjolnir used to be welded by Odin before Thor, the thing is just suppose to be insanely powerful. In regards to sheer force Superman has taken a point-blank blast that was equated to a million nuclear bombs.
Btw, who has wielded the hammer in the past is mostly irrelevant other than to show it has pedigree as a weapon, it's not an indicator of how powerful it is. No need for me to get into that.
Mjolnir has tanked absorbing half a bomb that could kill every god in the universe. It has tanked a blast from a being who equals a pissed off Odin. It has tanked a planet destroying blast.
Sure, there are moments like the final battle between old king Thor and Gorr, but his few moments of awesome are overshadowed by many dethroning moments of suck. He is far removed from the Thor who used Mjolnir in a clever way to get the edge over the Juggernaut, who used Mjolnir to shoot powerful energy blasts reminiscent of the Kamehameha against the celestials and the skymother Majeston Zelia. The Thor who stopped a suicide bomber through dialogue, wisdom and compassion.
The Thor who despite being turned into a frog mantained his regal behaviour, his heroic willpower and dramatic speech pattern. That's when it hit me that they have lost touch of what Thor character is. The dude is a mythological God, not only his he the son of the God of Wisdom and king of Asgard, he received possibly some of the best education anyone in the galaxy could probably get.
He's knows all the languages of the nine realms, trained in nearly every style of swordfighting and unharmed combat, has Superman-like strenght, was disguised as a skilled medic for years etc. He was educated to be a King. He is not dumb, he is actually far smarter than the average new yorker, honestly I would dare to say that he probably got a better education than even Tony Stark.
Thor has issues with modern day USA because it's a different culture with different standards. It would be like if Leonardo Da Vinci time travelled to modern day Italy and being both confused and intrigued by how much has changed since his time period.
Just because he's out of his homeland and context, doesn't mean he's stupid. This brings the cartoon Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes to my mind. In that show, Thor didn't quite get modern Earth's conventions and technology but he was anything but an idiot.
He was wise, clever and spoke like a operatic knight in shining armor, and he came off like a pagan god learning about modern Earth and modern people. I don't remember fraction's run showing him this poorly. I think most of this is just bad marketing and decisions to make Jane Foster and other heroes look good. It's because Thor's taken as the team powerhouse, so it's easy to generate cheap heat by knocking him down.
Reimagined public domain superheroes in a that never was! Some of that is movie synergy. The other aspect I think is that the bar has been raised in comics a bit. His ability to fly and strength are just bonuses that make him even more appealing as a superhero. This is often portrayed through the relationship between Loki and Thor, which is entertaining most times and very endearing because of its emphasis on brotherly love.
Although a fighter on the battlefield, he can be caring and genuine as a character that resonates strongly with the audience. This makes the essential scenes lose their impact. Despite his incredible strength and superhuman abilities, Thor somehow loses his edge and makes the silliest of mistakes during crucial moments. Thor is proud of his incredible abilities and powers, making him a powerful opponent. But this often gets to his head, leading to a mess on the battlefield.
Thor often underestimates his opponents and goes blindly into battle, finally losing everything the Avengers fought for. Thor enjoys drinking and tends to fight after which he gets agitated and furious. While this can help certain situations, losing his temper has led to his downfall several times. There are many traits that one can love and hate in Thor, like in every character. Pinpointing each one cannot dismiss the powerful presence Thor shows as a character in the Marvel cinematic universe.
Love or Hate, he is here to stay. What are your thoughts on this personality?
