Why does bmw limit top speed

Second Lieutenant. Anyway to increase the limit via coding? I have never heard of BMW's being limited to mph! Has always been mph! Where would you drive that fast in the US? Since every review states MPH. NO idea if this is true. Originally Posted by suby Last edited by dkreidel; at PM.. I don't believe the error is that large. Perhaps need to look at the us website to see as the U. Originally Posted by Mach Originally Posted by jjrandorin. Here in the US it depends on what tires you get with your car. Seems like a silly way to do it. So what's interesting is this just made me go back to the ordering guide for BMWNA , and option "Increased top speed limiter" is listed as standard for the Mi. So the outcome is the same as described, except that BMW can advertise the increased top speed as standard even though it gets removed if you select the wrong tires. Well I'm getting the Flash tune soon which will get rid of the ridiculous mph speed limiter. Just out of curiosity, what is the every day difference between mph limit and mph top limit.

I do not see M as a track car but maybe I am wrong. For every day driving, I don't see why it would matter. The highest speed limit I have encountered is 80 mph. I understand people don't drive at the speed limit and that having the ability to go faster IMHO can actually be a safety feature but is 50 mph higher than the highest limit and ought to be more than enough. Am I missing something?
