Liverpool is a narrow east-west aligned electorate in Sydney's outer south-western suburbs. Paciullo went on to serve as Police Minister in the Unsworth government, and following Labor's defeat, tried to contest the party leadership. After being heavied not to run, he resigned from parliament and later served as Liverpool Mayor. The pre-selection that followed his resignation was a disaster for Labor, with the ballot between the right's Mark Latham and Left's Paul Lynch becoming a farce that involved ballot boxes in the boots of cars being chased across Sydney. Latham was later elected Federal MP for Werriwa and led Labor to defeat at the Federal election, while Paul Lynch continued to work the local numbers and eventually defeated Anderson for pre-selection ahead of the election.

Unlike Paul Whelan, who Bob Carr and Sussex Street actively worked to save from a similar pre-selection challenge, Anderson was left to his fate, Carr confiding to his diaries his pleasure at the removal of his only serious leadership rival. Lynch gained his revenge by continuing to do the local numbers and defeating Anderson for pre-selection before the election. Lynch was appointed to the Ministry after the election and served in several portfolios during the regular cabinet changes through the final four years of the Labor government.

She is a registered Occupational Therapist and currently works for headspace — the national youth mental foundation, to build awareness of and reduce stigma around mental health and well-being so that young people can access the help they need in the community. Charishma has worked with young people across many industries to build skills and capacities in the last 10 years. She brings to Council skills and experience in community engagement, advocacy, policy development, administration, volunteering, board membership as well as a passion and commitment to moving Liverpool forward.

This is her first term on Liverpool Council and Charishma looks forward to working with the community to make Liverpool the best place to live and work.
